This paper reviews the concept of Sexual Addiction, some of it differential traits, (initial control by positive reinforcers, and, eventually, by negative reinforcers, loss of control, degradation and dependency as a core sign) characteristics that resemble those of other types of addictions. Some ideas, methods and instruments which elicit and maintain this type of behaviour are revised and some suggestions for assessment are made. It is concluded that despite the few empirical data, some important questions are still to be answered are and speculations about its future prevalence are made, especially in regard to the impact of new technologies.
